23 May 2024 1:00pm – 2:00pmBST (+01:00)
Location TBC

NHS Bitesize sessions are for professional NHS communicators only. Please register with your NHS email or you will not receive the Teams invite sent out on the day of the session. Note: the Teams invite for each session is sent out on the morning of the session.

Claire Dellar is a digital product manager, who has led teams developing some of the largest and most complex NHS systems, including eReferrals and cervical cancer screening. She is also an accessibility and inclusion ambassador, being a neurodiverse professional with neurological and visual impairments, and is an ambulatory wheelchair user. Her personal blog is Wheelchair Tango Foxtrot, she has a WTF Instagram and she is featured on the NHS website.

Claire will talk about how the Accessibility Ambassadors launched the NHS England Accessibility Lab, creating an inclusive event taking place simultaneously in London, Leeds and online.

What you will learn:

  • what accessibility and inclusion needs to consider when setting up an online, in person or hybrid communications event
  • how to find out people's access needs, including GDPR requirements for holding sensitive information on individuals
  • some of the adaptations you might make, for neurodiverse people, wheelchair users and some of the less well known impairments
  • best practice in continuously improving the accessibility of your communications events.

Takeaways will include a questionnaire for finding out people's access needs and questions to include in post-event surveys for continuous improvement.
