Integration of clinical pathways into EPR - Heart Failure
The national Cardiac Transformation team and the EPR Optimisation programme team have been working to explore ways to embed clinical pathways into electronic patient records (EPRs) to develop the effective workflows by aligning to national evidence-based pathways and guidance. The main objectives are to improve productivity and efficiencies for clinical, operational and digital staff and provide consistent and optimal care and experience for patients on a pathway.
This work to configure a pathway based workflow into an EPR is being piloted at Manchester Royal Infirmary using the Heart Failure pathway. The work has been designed to make EPR tasks more seamless and less fragmented leading to improved identification of suspected patients with heart failure and begin treatment more quickly. NHS England will then look to see whether a workflow based on other clinical pathways could be configured into an EPR in a vendor agnostic way.
Dr Colin Cunnington, Consultant Cardiologist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust will share the pilot’s progress to date.
Resources will also be shared to support providers in embedding these workflows in their EPR systems.
