Part 1: Healthier Lives: Empowering people with learning disabilities to take charge of their well-being
Join us for a webinar showcasing how Hertfordshire Learning Disability Nurses are leading initiatives to improve health outcomes for people with learning disabilities in the community. We will introduce the 'Stay Healthy at Home' checklist, designed to support a 365-day approach to health promotion, ensuring well-being extends far beyond the annual health check.
Find out how our Health Equality Nurses (HENs) are addressing health inequalities, increasing cancer screening uptake, and reaching individuals who may otherwise miss essential health services. We will also introduce the 'Healthy Lifestyles' workshop series - a tailored programme designed to empower people with learning disabilities and their carers with practical knowledge on staying healthy, enhancing well-being, and making informed lifestyle choices.
Speaker:
Hilary Gardener is the strategic Liaison nurse for Primary Health in Hertfordshire and is part of the Adult Care services learning disability nursing service.
She is passionate about establishing pathways that help reduce the risk of avoidable deaths in people with a learning disability through the principle of the triangle of health being a partnership between the person, the people who know the person best and the health professionals.
Part 2: Sport For Confidence’s Learning Disability food and nutrition training programme for LD care home staff
This webinar will outline the premise of an upcoming work programme in the Learning Disability food and nutrition space taking place across Essex.
Sport For Confidence are working with Essex County Council on an exciting new project, to develop, deliver, and evaluate a training programme which supports Learning Disability care home staff in food, nutrition, and healthy weight management.
We want to improve and create momentum around healthy weight management and lifestyle choices, empowering carers to support adults with a Learning Disability to lead healthier lives.
Speakers:
Lyndsey Barrett, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Sport for Confidence and Lead Occupational Therapist: Lyndsey co-founded Sport for Confidence in 2017 and brings a wealth of knowledge to this programme, with over 20 years’ experience as an occupational therapist.
Rachael Colley, Registered Dietitian specialising in weight management and learning disabilities: A full member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and Education Officer at BDA’s Learning Disabilities Specialist Subgroup, Rachael brings 23 years’ of experience to this project.
