NHSE Bitesize on NHS Staff Flu Vaccination Campaign

11 September 2025 1:00pm – 2:15pmBST (+01:00)
Location TBC

This session is for NHS staff only. Please register with your NHS email address and you will receive a Teams invite by 10am on the day of the session.

About the session:

Last year, the flu vaccine prevented an estimated 96,000 to 120,200 hospitalisations. Healthcare workers face higher exposure and can unknowingly transmit flu to vulnerable patients as up to 50% of influenza infections are without symptoms. As flu vaccination rates among healthcare and social care staff have dropped in recent years we are keen to support communications and Ops teams to help improve uptake rates of staff.  NHS organisations are expected to improve flu vaccine uptake among frontline workers by at least 5% compared to last year.

Communications has a vital role to play in achieving this commitment and this bitesize session will provide information and cases studies of communications and operational activity that has proven to be effective.

Agenda

Introduction: Rob Checketts, Strategic Advisor at NHS England will set out the aim of the session.

  • Our first case study will be from South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, one of the exemplar Trusts with improved uptake of staff vaccinations in 2024/25. Michelle Archer will share what they did and how teams worked together as a force to ensure increased staff flu vaccinations over four counties further supporting staff and patient safety.

  • Our second case study will be from Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, considered an exemplar Trust with similar improved uptake of staff vaccinations in 2024/25. Amy Blackburn and her team will share what they did to increase uptake.
  • Q&A and open discussion

We have arranged a follow-up sessions on 23rd September to hear if the materials and case studies shared have been useful and how you're getting on. There will be a further feedback open discussion session on 13 November to hear how implementation is going and how we can support your efforts.
