UPDATE: We have had to swap our two webinars, so the ‘Non Cancer MDT meetings’ webinar will now take place on 11 November, and the SPA webinar will take place on 26 November. Timings stay the same, 12-1pm. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

As part of NHS England’s work to support consultants and SAS doctors and improve service delivery, we are running a webinar series on Medical Job Planning best practice and learning. Topics covered so far include high impact actions for medical job planning improvement, culture change and service level job planning. Each webinar lasts 45 minutes to an hour around lunch time, and we welcome all NHS staff involved in medical job planning to attend.

Our seventh webinar will take place on 26 November from 12-1pm and will cover the topic of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).

SPAs underpin Direct Clinical Care. They contribute to the ongoing professional development of clinicians, the development and improvement of services and the teaching and training and education of multi-professional colleagues. However, there is wide variation across organisations in how SPA time is defined, allocated and used, creating inconsistency and confusion.

The national team are creating guidance to help standardise the setting, delivery and monitoring of SPA time and ensure valuable SPA time is used fairly, consistently and in a constructive way that fully invests in and support the workforce and high-quality services delivery. The guidance and upcoming webinar will cover:

  • A new taxonomy for SPA and other non-DCC activities to bring national consistency.
  • Principles for job planning SPAs and other non-DCCs.
  • Provider responsibilities in making best use of SPA time.
  • Responses to frequently asked questions from medical and operational colleagues.

Please register using the link below and forward to any colleagues you think will benefit from attending. We hope to see you there!
