East of England Renal Network is hosting a webinar to inform renal nurse workforce upcoming changes within the NMC and how this may affect them.

In 2023 the NMC launched a review to consider the additional regulation of advanced nursing and midwifery practice – the complex, autonomous and expert roles that many experienced nurses and midwives carry out. In March 2024, having reviewed the evidence presented, Council agreed the following approaches:

  1. Draft and finalise a unified UK wide advanced practice framework (including ongoing joint regulatory discussions through joint regulatory group).
  2. Draft and finalise standards of proficiency for advanced practice nurses and midwives (including public consultation).
  3. Draft and finalise associated education programme standards for advanced practice (including public consultation).
  4. Ensure quality assurance processes in place to support standards implementation.
  5. Draft and finalise proportionate transition arrangements for existing/current advanced practice nurses and midwives, and those in training.
  6. Ensure advanced practice is considered in the NMC’s review of the Code and revalidation requirements planned for 2025/26.

Speaker, Paula McLaren, Senior Adviser for Advanced Practice, NMC, will explain how employers and employees can begin to prepare to meet these standards.
