An Introduction to Public Inquiries for professional NHS Communicators

NHS Communications  Bitesize sessions are for NHS professional communicators. If you work for a Local Authority on a health portfolio or Health Charity you are welcome to join. Please register with your NHS or .Gov email address. If you use a personal email address you will not receive a Teams invite

How it works: Choose a session or sessions and register with your work NHS email address as mentioned above. On the morning of the session you will receive a Teams invite from me. We need to wait until the booking page is closed at 09:00 on the day of the session to be able to send the invite. If you register you will receive an invite by 10:00. 

This session will help support NHS communicators to understand and handle Public Inquiries and will be chaired by Dominic Fear, Deputy Head of Communications Response at NHS England

Hearing from NHS professional communicators who have extensive experience on particular issues and topics is a great way to learn. We are delighted the presenters for this session are very experienced and are happy to share what went well and what didn't and, how best to manage the communications challenges of a Public Inquiry. Dom Fear the Chair and Facilitator will lead you through the agenda as follows: 

Introduction and aims of the session  - Dominic Fear, Deputy Head of Communications Response, NHS England 

Overview of Public Inquiries - Georgina Whitfield, Head of Strategy and Response, NHS England Inquiry Team: What organisations might want to consider; the important of records management; reputation management; top tips. 

Case study 1: Current Inquiries: Jo Baggott, Deputy Head of Strategic Communications, NHS England Midlands Region. Standards, good communications governance and different types of communications challenges and considerations.  

Case study 2: The Thirlwell Inquiry: Helen Taylor, Head of Communications, Countess of Chester Hospital NHS FT. Extra elements that create challenges like Trials, Politics etc. 

We will have about 15 minutes at the end for a Q&A so please bring questions if you are already working on something or if you want to be well prepared for the future!
