Virtual (MS Teams)

Join the Nursing Directorate’s Workforce Team from 12pm to 12:45pm on Thursday 7 May 2026 for our lunch and learn session on person-centred and trauma informed care.

Organisations will outline how they have reviewed their ETOC practices by creating emotional and psychological safety, involving patients and their support networks in decision-making, and ensuring care is delivered in the least restrictive way possible.

The event will conclude with an open discussion, providing an opportunity to share your insights, experiences, and questions with our expert panel.

About the Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC) programme

Demand for Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC), often referred to as enhanced care, 1:1’s or specialling, has increased due to our aging population and complexity of patient presentation. Nursing leaders report the need to identify innovative workforce models to ensure that patient safety and experience can be maintained in the most appropriate way.

NHS England's Nursing Directorate's Workforce Team, in collaboration with Safer Staffing colleagues, have launched a programme of work which aims to support systems to develop and improve their approach to how enhanced therapeutic observations and care is assessed and provided, with patient safety and experience at the centre.
