Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC) webinar: culture and partnership working

Join the Nursing Directorate Workforce Team on Tuesday 15 September 2026, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, for an Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC) webinar exploring culture and partnership working. 

The session will explore how NHS organisations have reviewed their ETOC provision and introduced innovative, compassionate and inclusive approaches that help patients feel safe and staff feel supported. It will also highlight collaborative approaches that bring together health and care professionals from a range of settings to deliver the best possible care. 

Chaired by Karen Jessop, Chief Nurse at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the webinar will feature colleagues from NHS trusts sharing their organisations’ experiences, challenges and successes. 

We recognise that organisations are at different stages of their ETOC journey and that the approaches shared may not be directly transferable to every setting. However, we hope the session will provide practical insights, showcase innovative approaches, and encourage new ways of thinking about culture and partnership working. 

This event will be useful for anyone within your organisation responsible for the provision and monitoring of ETOC, including, but not limited to, ETOC teams, nursing workforce leads and staffing leads. 
 
About the Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC) programme 

Demand for Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC), often referred to as enhanced care, 1:1’s or specialling, has increased due to our aging population and complexity of patient presentation. Nursing leaders report the need to identify innovative workforce models to ensure that patient safety and experience can be maintained in the most appropriate way. 
 
NHS England's Nursing Directorate's Workforce Team, in collaboration with Safer Staffing colleagues, have launched a programme of work which aims to support systems to develop and improve their approach to how enhanced therapeutic observations and care is assessed and provided, with patient safety and experience at the centre.
