A Virtual Reality Solution to Healthcare Anxiety

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust launched a pilot programme designed to reduce anxiety associated with medical environments for autistic individuals and those with learning disabilities. The program immerses users in virtual simulations of hospital settings, including waiting areas and clinical procedures, to familiarise them with these environments before actual visits. This approach has demonstrated that it has a positive impact on patients with Learning disabilities and autism and in directly has the potential to improve DNA rates in a healthcare setting.

Speakers:

Sarah Haines is Head of Patient Experience and a Learning Disability Nurse with 33 years of experience by background. Sarah is passionate about improving access to healthcare in innovative ways.

Celine Kennard is an programme manager with over a decade of experience in managing complex programmes and projects for various healthcare organisations, including for the NHS and charitable organisations. Celine is passionate about advancing mental health through innovative solutions to enhance patient care and well-being.

Kemi Biyi is an Innovation Project Manager with experience shaping improvements across healthcare. She brings an analytical mind and people-centred approach, and is passionate about tackling inequalities and making systems work better for everyone.
