AAA Screening Programme Health Inequalities Networking Day (LONDON)

Date: Thursday 22 January 2026

Supporting local AAA screening services to help increase the uptake of men living in deprived areas.

Local AAA screening services are warmly invited to the AAA Screening Inequalities Networking Day in London to share successful approaches and discuss how to improve AAA uptake for men living in deprived areas.

Despite the high uptake nationally, we know that these figures hide low uptake rates for those that need it most. Ongoing data indicates that men living in deprived areas (IMD 1-3) are more likely to decline their AAA screening invitation and yet we know that these men are more than twice as likely to experience and die of an AAA.

The NHS National AAA Screening Portfolio Team and National Vaccination and Screening Health Inequalities Team will host this in-person AAA Screening Inequalities Network Day, which will be held at the NHS England’s National Office on London.

The workshop will:

  • Increase the understanding about the key challenges and enablers facing the lowest AAA uptake amongst the eligible population.
  • Be an opportunity to network and share learning and real-life examples with colleagues from across the country.
  • Highlight the available resources and support for working in this area.
  • Gather insights to shape future work.

Speakers will include:

  • Dr Robyn Fletcher, Consultant in Public Health, Senior Clinical Lead for Diabetic Eye and Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programmes
  • Katherine Jordan, Head of Diabetic Eye and Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programmes
  •  Khadidja Bichbiche, Consultant in Public Health Medicine, Deputy Director of Equalities

Who should attend:

Members of your team who are involved in working with and engaging with men living in deprived communities and/or those less likely to attend, as well as colleagues from ICB and regional Screening & Immunisations Teams (SITs).

We'd like to hear from you:

  • A key aim of the day will be to share best practice and case studies about how services have addressed this issue - including what has worked and what has been less effective. We are keen to start collating any local examples and we’d like to hear from as many services as possible to build on the work that is already being in place and share this learning.
  • Please contact Nicola Hawdon, Equalities Manager (Nicola.Hawdon@nhs.net) if you are happy to submit an example to be shared and/or if you would be happy to present a case study at the Workshop.

Registration:

Please register before Friday 28 November 2025

Please note, that there is a limit of two members for local services and one member per SIT. Once you have registered, we will confirm your place and send additional information about the day.
