NHS England & Improvement Prevention Programme

Alcohol in Secondary Care

24th March 2020

Alcohol contributes to a wide range of conditions including cardiovascular disease, cancer and liver disease, as well as harm from accidents, violence and self-harm. 12 to 15% of A&E attendances are alcohol-related and over 1.1m hospital admissions each year have alcohol as a causal factor in the patient’s diagnosis.

Following the publication of the NHS Long-Term Plan, NHS England and Improvement together with Public Health England are implementing a number of initiatives to increase the early identification and treatment of patients  in secondary care settings who experience alcohol use disorders.

This event attracts delegates from clinical practice, policy and commissioning and will cover the development of new Alcohol Care Teams (ACT), ACT Core Competencies Framework and the upcoming Alcohol Dependence CQUIN 2020/21. Speakers will include the National Speciality Advisor for Alcohol Dependence.

This event will be partnered with Public Health England Health Improvement: Alcohol, Drugs, Tobacco & Justice Division.
