Have you joined an Ambulance Service Virtual Staff Mess Room?
Supported by College of Paramedics leading the development of the paramedic profession
Colleagues in the national People Team in partnership with NHS Practitioner Health have been busy developing Ambulance Service Virtual Staff Mess Rooms for colleagues across the UK. This is an opportunity for our ambulance people to come together virtually and to invest some important time in supporting each other during these challenging times. Open to absolutely anyone working within the ambulance sector, regardless of job role, organisational context or hierarchy and includes all final year students who are working directly on the response to the Covid-19 pandemic and/or those who are keeping our services running throughout.
The Staff Mess Rooms are a safe and supportive environment hosted by an experienced and approved practitioner.
They are one-off meetings for one hour with a maximum of 10 NHS staff – although you are of course free to join as many ‘rooms’ as you may feel to be helpful for you. Discussion in the room is guided by the participants and focusses on present and future coping and support.
There are two distinct Staff Mess Room offers available – one for all staff and students currently working with the other for those staff and students currently redeployed/shielding/ isolating i.e. working from home/at home for any reason other than working from home.
The national definition for shielding includes staff and students who are:
- Clinically vulnerable or very clinically vulnerable.
- Living with someone who is vulnerable (stayed at home with the vulnerable person/ stayed away from home).
- Pregnant working on the frontline.
The national definition for isolating includes staff and students who:
- Have COVID symptoms, have tested positive for COVID or live with someone who is either of these.
- Are at home – long term sick with COVID or for other reasons.
They are an opportunity to share experiences and learning, with hosts also guiding people to additional support and resources.
