Blood Culture Pathway Optimisation – Translation into practice
Bloodstream infections (BSI) are among the most serious acute infections, with over 130,000 cases detected annually in the UK. They account for approximately 40% of emergency admissions and 66% of total hospital deaths.
Blood cultures are the primary diagnostic test for detecting bloodstream infections (BSI) and determining the appropriate antimicrobial treatment. Collecting blood cultures and analysing them promptly is crucial to ensure a timely and accurate diagnosis, leading to swift treatment of BSI.
