Autism webinar - Health inequalities faced by autistic people

NHS England is inviting those with an interest in hearing more about the health inequalities faced by autistic people to a webinar on 20th June, 10:00am – 11:30am.

Autistic people should be able to access the same health services as anyone else with similar needs and should expect similar outcomes, however, research suggests autistic people are more likely to have chronic mental and physical health conditions and that they report lower quality healthcare than the general population. The NHS long term plan identified steps the NHS should take to tackle the causes of morbidity and preventable death in autistic people and to improve their experience of using health services.

The webinar aims to:

  • Raise awareness of the difficulties faced by autistic people when trying to access health care
  • Highlight the needs of autistic older people and those with dementia
  • Help Identify the workforce required to support autistic people
  • Provide information on how to support autistic people accessing primary care
  • The steps we can take to bring about greater equity of care for our autistic population

The webinar will be led by Dr Amy Dissanayaka, GP and NHSE Specialist Clinical Advisor for autism health inequalities.
