Insights session on standards for data diversity and lessons from AI fairness assessments
The NHS AI Lab and the Health Foundation are hosting an insights session for the Community for Racial and Ethnic Equity in AI.
This virtual insights session will provide final findings from two projects:
- The STANDING Together project team, led by researchers at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, will outline standards for datasets underpinning AI systems, to make sure they are diverse, inclusive and can support development of AI systems that work across all demographic groups.
- The ARIAS project team, led by researchers at St. George's Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital, will outline their efforts to validate the performance of AI retinal image analysis systems that are used in the NHS Diabetic Eye Screening Programme in different subgroups of the population, and deliver a platform for ongoing evaluation of these algorithms to ensure they work for everyone.
These presentations will be followed by audience Q&A.
The Community for Racial and Ethnic Equity in AI builds on our research competition on ‘AI and Racial and Ethnic Inequalities in Health and Care'. This is intended to advance knowledge and inform practice related to AI-driven technologies in healthcare, with the aim of improving health outcomes for minority ethnic populations in the UK.
