East of England Palliative and End of Life Care Strategic Clinical Network Launch
NHS England is establishing Strategic Clinical Networks for Palliative and End of Life Care in each of the seven Regions of England. This is great opportunity for us to work together across the East of England to support and learn from each other, come together for shared education events, develop shared projects and ensure that Palliative and End of Life Care is prominent in each of the six developing Integrated Care Systems of the East of England. The Strategic Clinical Network will address the needs of people approaching the end of their lives with all medical conditions, in all settings (hospital, care home, home, hospice, secure settings, etc.), all ages (including children and young adults) and at all times of day and night. Funding has been made available from NHSE&I for a full-time Network Manager and part-time Clinical Lead: we have just received notification of the modest funds that will also be available to support activity in each of our ICS areas.
We are holding a launch event for the Network, to which we are inviting all colleagues with an interest in this important area of patient care. Following a keynote address from Professor Bee Wee, National Clinical Director for Palliative and End of Life Care, we would like to invite each ICS to give a presentation on an initiative in their area that might become a shared project across the Region. We very much want the Network to be relevant and supportive as we work together to improve patient care.
