Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC) lunch and learn: Culture and language
Join the Nursing Directorate’s Workforce Team from 12:00pm to 12:45pm on Thursday 2 April 2026 for the tenth lunch and learn session in our enhanced therapeutic observations and care (ETOC) series.
This session will focus on culture and language, exploring how organisations have reviewed their ETOC provision and applied innovative, compassionate and inclusive approaches to create environments where patients feel safe and staff feel supported.
The event will conclude with an open discussion, providing an opportunity to share your insights, experiences, and questions with our expert panel.
About the Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC) programme
Demand for Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC), often referred to as enhanced care, 1:1’s or specialling, has increased due to our aging population and complexity of patient presentation. Nursing leaders report the need to identify innovative workforce models to ensure that patient safety and experience can be maintained in the most appropriate way.
NHS England's Nursing Directorate's Workforce Team, in collaboration with Safer Staffing colleagues, have launched a programme of work which aims to support systems to develop and improve their approach to how enhanced therapeutic observations and care is assessed and provided, with patient safety and experience at the centre.
