Virtual (MS Teams)

NHS England’s Nursing Directorate will host its sixth lunch and learn session, on Wednesday 5 November 2025, from 12:15pm to 1:00pm. The session will focus on embedding therapeutic practice.

During the session, our speakers will discuss their journey of adopting a least-restrictive therapeutic approach of enhanced therapeutic observation and care. They’ll explore how this model supports therapeutic and holistic care and can lead to improved patient outcomes and experience.

The event concludes with an open session giving you the opportunity to share your own insights, experiences, and questions with our expert panel.

About the Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC) programme

Demand for Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC), often referred to as enhanced care, 1:1’s or specialling, has increased due to our aging population and complexity of patient presentation. Nursing leaders report the need to identify innovative workforce models to ensure that patient safety and experience can be maintained in the most appropriate way.

NHS England's Nursing Directorate's Workforce Team, in collaboration with Safer Staffing colleagues, have launched a programme of work which aims to support systems to develop and improve their approach to how enhanced therapeutic observations and care is assessed and provided, with patient safety and experience at the centre.
