Enhanced Therapeutic Observations and Care (ETOC) webinar series: Children and Young People
Join the Nursing Directorate's Workforce Team between 12:00pm and 13:00pm on Tuesday 10 February 2026 for the seventeenth webinar in our enhanced therapeutic observations and care (ETOC) series.
This webinar will explore how organisations support children and young people when enhanced care is required throughout their stay. It will take place over Children’s Mental Health week 2026.
The session will be chaired by James McLean MBE, NHS England’s Regional Chief Nurse for the North West region. James will be joined by colleagues from NHS trusts, who will share their experiences and learning in this space.
The webinar aims to highlight local approaches to supporting children and young people, showcasing a range of organisations working in different ways to improve patient care. It will also explore good practice across England.
We recognise that the examples shared throughout this webinar may not be directly applicable to your organisation and that everyone may be at varying places in their journey, however we are hoping this webinar will inspire you to think differently.
This event will be useful for anyone within your organisation responsible for the provision and monitoring of ETOC, especially those who work closely with Children and Young People, including but not limited to, ETOC teams, nursing workforce leads, staffing leads and transformation/QI teams.
About the Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC) programme
Demand for Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC), often referred to as enhanced care, 1:1’s or specialling, has increased due to our aging population and complexity of patient presentation. Nursing leaders report the need to identify innovative workforce models to ensure that patient safety and experience can be maintained in the most appropriate way.
NHS England's Nursing Directorate's Workforce Team, in collaboration with Safer Staffing colleagues, have launched a programme of work which aims to support systems to develop and improve their approach to how enhanced therapeutic observations and care is assessed and provided, with patient safety and experience at the centre.
