Event Overview

This event will formally launch the Asthma Friendly Schools Guidance and Policy for Greater Manchester, providing schools and system partners with clear, practical direction on how to create safe, inclusive environments for children and young people living with asthma.

The guidance and policy are based on established, evidence-informed models, including approaches that have been successfully implemented in London, as well as long-standing learning from other regions. These models demonstrate how coordinated action across education, health and local authorities can improve asthma awareness, preparedness and safety within school settings.

Purpose of the Event

The event will:

  • Officially launch the Asthma Friendly Schools Guidance and Policy documents for Greater Manchester
  • Explain the rationale, expectations and practical application of the guidance in school settings
  • Support schools to understand how the guidance can help them work towards being Asthma Friendly
  • Share good practice, learning and different delivery models from Greater Manchester 
  • Strengthen collaboration across education, public health, clinical services and children’s services

Target Audience

The event is aimed at a broad, multi-agency audience, including:

  • School leaders, teachers and support staff (primary, secondary and special schools)
  • Local authority education leads and public health teams
  • School nursing and community health services
  • Paediatric, respiratory and other relevant clinical professionals
  • Children’s services leaders, commissioners and system partners
  • Anyone involved in improving health, safety and inclusion for children and young people in schools
