Histopathology Transformation: Turning national ambition into action

Date & Time: 14th September 2026  10.30am – 4.30pm

Location: The Royal College of Pathologists 6 Alie St, London E1 8QT

Target Stakeholders: Pathology Network SRO/Directors, Network Histopathology Clinical/Operational Leads/ Cancer Alliances

Outline Brief:

Three years after launching the Six-Point Histopathology Improvement Plan, we are entering a new phase of histopathology transformation.

Histopathology is now recognised as a national transformation priority. With new investment and support available, there is a significant opportunity to modernise services, improve resilience and build the capacity needed to meet current and future demand.

NHS England will bring together leaders from across pathology networks, cancer alliances, and professional bodies for an in-person event focused on turning national ambition into action.

The event will consider how we accelerate progress through:

  • robotic automation and modernised laboratory workflows
  • digital histopathology and readiness for artificial intelligence
  • more resilient, networked models of service delivery
  • workforce development and new ways of working
  • service and demand optimisation

This will be a call to action for the histopathology community: to recognise the progress made, address the barriers that remain and work collectively to deliver sustainable, high-quality services for patients.
