Leadership Landscape of London Research Project

20 April 9:00am – 27 May 2021 5:00pmBST (+01:00)
Location TBC

Recognising the unprecedented demands and challenges placed particularly in London on the NHS through the pandemic and the outstanding response of staff, the NHS London Leadership & Lifelong Learning team (LLLL) has commissioned a team of leadership expert action researchers and facilitators from the University of the West of England Bristol Business School to help explore the impact and implications of the pandemic from your own personal perspective and experience of you and your organisation in order to inform the leadership development of the future.

We wish to explore with you key questions based on your own experience such as “How did leadership impact upon your experience of the pandemic? What are your observations on how the NHS has responded to the pandemic and your views on the implications for the NHS and its future? How can we change what we do and how we do it to respond to existing and emerging needs? How can we contribute to supporting and growing a new leadership culture within the NHS?”

So to this end you are invited to join a small pioneering group discussion that will meet twice in a virtual space during April and May. On a confidential and safe basis you will have the rare opportunity to reflect with others on what has occurred for you during the pandemic, to consider how you are feeling and to explore the implications for your own leadership, your organisation and the wider NHS.

The two sessions which will last an hour and a half will include co-created boundaries for sharing safely and confidentially; individual and collective spaces for reflection; a deep dive into the power of our personal and professional narratives and opportunity to explore the many facets of our learning experiences over the last 12 months. It is intended that this reflective sense making space will offer you a postive and powerful experience of learning with peers and that the research findings will benefit teams across the trusts.

We are also offering an opportunity if interested to meet with a coach on a 1:1 basis to identify how emerging issues can be supported going forward.

The facilitating team come from a diverse range of backgrounds and perspectives, and are very aware of the particular challenges and issues faced by BAME staff and community. We are very keen to hear from a diverse range of voices.

Outcomes

This is action research. Your contributions will shape the face of future leadership and its development, informing the LLLL’s approach to its work, strategic orientation, and practical offer.

We hope that your experience in the sessions will also impact positively on you and your organisation. You will not be identified in the reporting unless of course you wish to be.

Follow on support

Following on from the group events there is an offer of additional mental well-being support from the NHS London Leadership & Lifelong Leadership team should that be helpful to you. This is in addition to the provision made by individual NHS organisations and is provided for all NHS staff.
