Masterclass on the New Productivity Calculation metric

Session description:

Productivity is a measure of outputs relative to inputs, which is well-established in the wider economy. It has become a key focus for the NHS and the Government, as it represents a crucial component of delivering value for public resources. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) publishes an annual public service productivity estimate covering all service areas in the UK, including healthcare. NHS England also estimates implied productivity specifically focused on acute trusts and foundation trusts (FTs), which is presented on the Model Health System on a monthly basis.

This session will provide an overview of how productivity is measured and will help describe how NHS England estimates acute trust implied productivity, including how this aligns with the ONS national statistic. People should attend to understand how they should be using the data presented on the Model Health System and to understand development on this work, whereby it will be published as an official statistic in development later this year.
