NHS England and NHS Improvement are responsible for commissioning specialised services for women with complications of mesh inserted for urinary incontinence and vaginal prolapse, and following the initial public consultation of the new service specification, we have undertaken a procurement exercise to appoint the hospitals that will be taking this service forward.

The final service specification has not yet been published, following changes made based on feedback from patients and clinicians, and to allow for some reflection following the publication of the IMMDS First Do No Harm review lead by Baronness Cumberlege and her team.

Our team have been working with clinicians to review the specification, and ensure that the recommendations have been addressed in the final version. We know that patients are keen to ensure that hospitals will work closely with women and actively learn from patient experience and feedback. As the service specification is the document that sets out clearly what these new services need to provide, we will be running through the specification prior to publication with patients, to ensure that all the IMMDS recommendations are covered and allow for any final comments.
