NHS IMPACT Lunch & Learn: The Anti-Racism Model for Improvement (MFI-AR)

19 May 2026 12:30pm – 1:20pmBST (+01:00)
Virtual (MS Teams)

Hosted by Prof Amar Shah, National Clinical Director for Improvement, our guest speaker Dr Nandi Simpson, Director, Implementation and Sarindi Aryasinghe, Head of Implementation from the NHS Race and Health Observatory will share their Anti‑Racism Model for Improvement Framework, which integrates RHO’s seven anti‑racism principles and was developed through their work tackling inequities in maternal and neonatal care as part of the RHO Learning and Action Network.

They will present case studies demonstrating how the framework has been applied in practice and offer guidance on using it to drive anti‑racism‑focused quality improvement. Attendees will leave with practical insights on applying the framework to address racial inequities across clinical pathways.

The Anti-Racism Model for Improvement (MFI-AR) is a practical, equity-centred adaptation of the widely used quality improvement (QI) approach. Developed by the RHO and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement through the RHO Maternal and Neonatal Learning Action Network, it helps teams to recognise and address how racism shapes data, decision-making, and service improvement. By embedding anti-racism principles throughout the QI process, the MFI-AR can help ensure efforts do not reinforce inequities to drive safer and more equitable care for minoritised ethnic communities. It will be an interactive session, followed by a group discussion and is for anyone who wants to find out more.
