NHS IMPACT Masterclass: Psychological safety and improvement

28 November 2025 9:30am – 10:20amGMT (+00:00)
Location TBC

Join Prof Amar Shah, National Clinical Director for Improvement and Simon Tulloch, Psychologist and Senior Advisor at the Danish Society for Patient Safety, Copenhagento learn more about Psychological safety and improvement.

The concept of psychological safety is a multilevel phenomenon that facilitates interpersonal behaviour. Put simply, a feeling of psychological safety among individual group members is a prerequisite for building a culture of psychological safety in teams.

In healthcare, psychological safety influences proactive behaviours, such as asking questions, reporting errors and communicating openly, and is associated with strong interpersonal relationships and an effective culture that include collaboration, trust and innovation. All of which are critical for improvement work.

In this session, Simon Tulloch will provide a brief introduction to relevant background and theory, whilst also providing real-world examples of activities which support psychological safety for staff engaged in improvement work.

It will be an interactive session, followed by a group discussion and is for anyone working in the NHS who wants to find out more.
