NHS Universal Family Programme – One year on

2 November 2023 11:00am – 1:30pmGMT (+00:00)
The Education Centre, Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Trust, Steelhouse Lane, Birmingham, B46NH, United Kingdom

In October 2022, Amanda Pritchard, NHS England chief executive and Dr. Navina Evans, chief workforce, training and education officer signed up to the Care Leaver Covenant on behalf of all NHS organisations across England. In doing this, NHS England made a firm and visible commitment to supporting care leavers into our NHS family.

In January 2023, NHS England launched the NHS Universal Family programme, in partnership with Spectra and ten pathfinder ICBs. This initiative seeks to widen the access for care experienced young people to career opportunities in the NHS, supporting the development of more flexible routes into NHS institutions.

In National Care Leavers’ Week 2023, we are inviting ICB chairs, chief executives, chief people officers and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise organisations to come together and:

  • hear first-hand experiences from young people who have been a part of the programme
  • discuss the innovative approaches that can attract, recruit and retain young people into the NHS

This is an opportunity, for NHS senior leaders to collaborate with partners within and outside of healthcare to address the systemic barriers the young people face entering the NHS workforce.

Spaces are limited, so we invite you to sign up to attend today!
