Optical Diagnosis Training and Accreditation Event

Optical Diagnosis (OD) with a resect and discard strategy was embedded into the BCSP service specification in April 2024, with each Bowel Cancer Screening service required to appoint an OD champion to support implementation. By May 2027, screening services are expected to have supported the accreditation of all screening colonoscopists who have worked within the BCSP for one year or more. 

The OD Faculty has delivered six successful training sessions, with over 500 screening colonoscopists completing the online training. The seventh and final OD training session has now been arranged for Thursday 26^th of February 2026, from 10 am to 4pm. 

There are no further planned training dates for OD in the diary, and as such centres are encouraged to send all of their untrained screening colonoscopists to this event.

The online Optical Diagnosis Training and Accreditation Event has three component parts which will all be covered on the training day: pre-training test, core learning, post-training test. 

Pre course information will be emailed to all delegates two weeks prior to the training date.
