Personal Wheelchair Budgets Workshop

The transition from the voucher scheme to personal wheelchair budgets (PWBs) was announced by Simon Stevens in May 2016 and CCGs have been expected to be working with their provider to develop local personal wheelchair budget offers since April 2017.

We have developed a suite of resources to support CCGs and providers and published some frequently asked questions.

Throughout 2015-16 and 2016-17, a series of events were delivered for both commissioners and providers.

NHS England have been offering bespoke support throughout 2018 to areas supported by resources available via our learning network and a  self-assessment tool. Some sites have been supported with mentoring from CCGs who have already progressed their local PWB offer.

NHS England are now offering a targeted event for those areas who have not accessed any of the above support or require further targeted support to transition to PWBs as part of the local personal health budget offer.

Aims of the day

The event will provide practical support for implementation and will be delivered primarily by PWB mentors, who are commissioners, personal health budget leads, clinicians and contract leads.

The event will be an opportunity to receive direct support from those who are now offering personal wheelchair budgets as business as usual.

To complement the self-assessment tool, we have developed a project planning guide, and the event will provide the opportunity to develop this in relation to locally developed resources and processes with advice from mentors.

This event would be valuable for clinical lead/service manager/lead clinicians, responsible commissioner/contract lead/personal health budget leads, colleagues who support local integration agendas and people (CYP and adults) with physical disabilities /complex needs.

It is expected that a there will be a representative from both CCG and the wheelchair provider.
