The Thames Valley School of Public Health is excited to offer a short course in public health targeted at trainees in paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, Sports & Exercise Medicine and anaesthetics working in Thames Valley.  As well as gaining an overview of each public health area you will work through case-based scenarios specific to your area of practice. 

The Public Health in Practice programme is designed to meet the public health aspects of the GMC professional capabilities (within domains 4 & 9) now adopted into your specialty curriculum.  

This programme is made up of virtual modules along with one face to face session delivered by subject experts in person . Book on to sessions and learn how to add public health skills, tools and knowledge into your work and practice. 

Audience

Specialty registrars from Sports and Exercise Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Anaesthetics in Thames Valley.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, attendees will:

  • Understand the role of the Health Protection Team (HPT) in UKHSA
  • Describe how and when to contact the HPT, including commonly notifiable diseases
  • Understand how the trainees speciality interacts with the HPT on common scenarios
  • Describe public health measures that can be taken to reduce transmission of infectious diseases
  • Understand principles of health protection including routes of transmission, focus on vulnerable populations and outbreak management

This programme is restricted to medical practitioners working in the Thames Valley only.

These sessions are fully funded by NHS England Workforce, Training & Education, South East (Thames Valley).   Failure to attend on the day without a valid reason may lead to your organisation being charged or your Training Programme Director being informed.  Kindly let us know at least 1 week in advance if you are not able to attend so that we can offer your place to someone on the waiting list.
