NEY Reporting Radiographer workshop

Dear Colleague,

The NHS England National Imaging Board, in consultation with and supported by The Royal College of Radiologists and The Society of Radiographers, on the recommendation of the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) review of NHS radiology services in England (2018) have recently published national standards for imaging reporting turnaround times (TAT), prompted by variation in TAT for reporting imaging examinations, and a lack of clear national standards.

Whilst considering the Workforce, Training & Education support that North East & Yorkshire (NEY) can offer to ICBs, Imaging Networks and Trusts across this region in relation to managing and maintaining TAT’s, we discovered a significant variation in the use and uptake of plain film image reporting by Reporting Radiographers, which can be viewed on Model Health, and prompted us to develop the online survey which many of you have completed.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has completed the Reporting Radiographer surveys over the last few months which has provided a great deal of rich data and feedback, which will allow us to focus on how we create and retain the right workforce, in the right place with the right skills at the right time to create an environment where we can all learn from each other and share ideas for improving patient experience, outcomes and TATs.

As such, we are holding a NEY regionReporting Radiographer workshop on the 15^th November 2023, 1-4pm via MS Teams in order to focus on the following aims:

• Sharing key findings from the Reporting Radiographer surveys;
• Group discussion on current and future scale and scope of practice of Reporting Radiography across NEY;
• Presentation from Radiography Clinical Fellows (Helen Watts & Emma Compton) on enhanced, advanced and consultant levels of practice and how these relate to reporting roles;
• Development of an NEY Reporting Radiography network & next steps.

The event is aimed at a broad audience including:

• Reporting Radiographers/Radiographers
• Radiology Department Managers
• Clinical Director (Radiology)

• ICB Workforce representatives
• ICB Diagnostic representatives
• Imaging Network Leads
• Imaging Academy Leads
• National Diagnostic Workforce Leads
