Sharing Best Practice - Focus on Firsts
📢 Webinar Invitation Â
We’re pleased to invite you to a national webinar - Focus on Firsts, taking place on Thursday 8 October, 10:00 - 11:00am. This webinar follows the announcement of the "Focus on Firsts" initiative in November, which will help bring performance back on plan and ensure more patients are given faster access to care.
Ensuring patients receive their first appointment early is key to improving RTT performance and reducing the length of waits. And it's also what the majority of our patients are waiting for!
- Two thirds of the RTT waiting list is comprised of patients who have not yet had a first appointment
- There are approximately one million patients waiting over 18 weeks without a first appointment even booked, and more than 30k of these have been waiting over a year for their first appointment
We need to change that!We have got to do better at managing our capacity and activity to ensure patients receive their first appointment faster, particularly in order to better manage the clinical risk of this patient cohort. Â
We'll do 3 things in the webinar:
- Use some of the national data to demonstrate how important first appointments are to overall pathway length, and how the focus has been lost since the start of this year
- Talk you through the data insights and opportunities packs that have been shared with each provider this week, helping you think through how to operationalise that insight and turn it into action for patients!
- Share an example of how one trust took a "Focus on Firsts" approach and completely turned around their performance and improved the visibility of the clinical risk within this patient cohort Â
The webinar will be chaired by Louise Tuckett, Director of Operations & Delivery at NHS England, and Ian Eardley, National Clinical Director for Elective Care. It is intended for provider operational teams, with representation required at COO and Deputy COO level, as well as from Directors of Elective Recovery and Senior Clinical Leaders. Â
Once registered, attendees will receive a confirmation email, with a diary invitation and Microsoft Teams link to join on the day. Â Â Â Â
We look forward to welcoming you. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact the team at england.electiveopsanddelivery@nhs.net.Â
