As part of the new primary care contract, NHS England and Improvement is providing funding to primary care networks across England to put in place link workers, health coaches and care coordinators.
This major scale-up of social prescribing builds on the many local schemes already in place. We want to understand how well the rollout of the new roles is working, and what benefits are being achieved for people and for the NHS.
The University of Warwick has been commissioned by the National Institute of Health Research to carry out a short study to establish how to best evaluate this initiative. This work will take around 6 months. It will help us to learn from previous research and work currently under way. It will help to shape a larger scale evaluation which we expect to be commissioned later in 2020.
We will be holding webinars on the dates above, which are open to anyone with an interest in the work, including researchers, social prescribing schemes, voluntary sector organisations and commissioners.
The webinars will cover:
- Why we think an evaluation is needed
- The work being carried out by Warwick University, with the support of the Improvement Analytics Unit at the Health Foundation
- How this fits with other evaluations under way
- How we can best keep you in touch with progress.
We are sharing this information through social prescribing networks, the Coalition for Collaborative Care, and networks for people with lived experience.
There will be a chance for you to ask questions about the work during the webinar.
