NHS England and NHS Improvement: Shared Decision Making Programme – Supporting the implementation of SDM in practice
Shared Decision Making is a key element of personalised care as well as a legal responsibility. It also has the potential to enhance system efficiency and patients want to be more involved in decisions about their own health and care. NHSE&I are providing a comprehensive programme offer to support ICS/STPs to embed SDM into clinical pathways.
This programme has been developed to align to the expansion of Universal Personalised Care and aims to contribute to realising the ambitions set out in the SDM design principles and standard model.
Starting in September 2019 across all 7 regions, and consisting of 2 full days and 3 webinars (2 x 90 mins, 1 x 60 mins), the programme will be lead and facilitated by the national SDM team to support any organisations who are wishing to implement SDM at scale to a high standard.
We strongly encourage you to ensure attendance from a group of influential people across the organisation who can assist with embedding SDM into a clinical pathway rather than single individuals (maximum 4 people) and should include a clinical lead who can help take this work forward, offer clinical expertise and provide representation on behalf of clinicians, a patient leader to provide a patient perspective and ensure co-production, a project/programme/QI manager to support with quality improvement and an executive sponsor who can help unblock any issues with regards to implementation and spread the message for SDM.
Please note that only one individual should register the group of 4 people by selecting 4 tickets. Please include all names, emails, roles and accessibility and dietary requirements of everyone attending.
*Day 1 - 14th November
Day 2 - 12th March*
