Talking Systems - Rethinking care by making space for ageing
About the session
For the last three years, the urban branch of the think tank Autonomy has been developing proposals for community infrastructure that centres workers in the transition to a green and caring society. During the talk Julian Siravo will present one of these concepts, Long Term Care Centres, developed during a collaboration with Valencia’s regional employment authority.
The proposal addresses the challenges of making space in the city for caring relations, for the diverse and often invisible individuals in them – givers and recipients of home care, paid and unpaid, formally and informally employed, documented and undocumented. Julian will take the participants through the illustrations the urban team adapted for the UK context, to start a discussion on what an expanded conception of neighbourhood care and 'ageing in place' might look like.
About the speaker
Julian Siravo is an architect and urban designer from Rome, Italy. Julian has worked for commercial and research-based design studios, before starting the urban research branch of Autonomy, a think tank focussing on the future of work. The urban team works with local authorities, trade unions and activists to develop spatial strategies and proposals that place workers, communities and the environment at their centre.
