Understanding chronic pain and the left shift together: Insights from the GIRFT programme

Hosted by Dr Helen Makins, GIRFT clinical lead for chronic pain, this webinar will discuss the initial insights from the GIRFT chronic pain programme and the picture of services nationally, with a view to alignment with the NHS 10 year plan.

Since July 2025, the GIRFT chronic pain team have undertaken 20 system level peer reviews to identify variation and challenges across the whole pathway in community, primary, secondary and tertiary care services.

In this webinar, the GIRFT chronic pain team - Helen Makins, Graham Syers and Jacqui Clinch - will present their findings, discuss the emerging themes, and outline potential recommendations for developing a neighbourhood-based model to ensure patients receive personalised, holistic and evidence-based care, with seamless transitions between services.

We will also look at a contemporary pain education approach and how this can support improvements in the delivery of pain management at neighbourhood level.
