Understanding the new Strategic Commissioning Insights compartment on the Model Health System

The Model Health System (MHS) now features a dedicated compartment for Strategic Commissioning Insights which includes metrics designed to support Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) in identifying potential opportunities. Metrics are based on established RightCare methodology, covering both spend/cost and activity volumes, for selected conditions across key areas in acute services and primary careprescribing.

In parallel, we are developing a Strategic Commissioning Insights Hub which brings together the relevant metrics on treatment and pathway costs along the patient pathway for cardiovascular disease including Stroke and Diabetes, and Respiratory. 

These initiatives form part of a wider suite of tools soon to be offered by NHS England through the Federated Data Platform and MHS to provide insights, which, when combined with local context, aim to improve population health.
