World AMR Awareness Week 2026 (18 - 24 November)

Amr

World AMR Awareness Week 2026 (18-24 November) is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on antimicrobial resistance and the actions we can all take to preserve antimicrobials for future generations. To help you get involved, we've brought together a collection of national events, resources and ready-to-use materials to support awareness-raising and stewardship activities throughout the week.

National Webinars during World AMR Awareness Week:

Join us as we explore how practical antimicrobial stewardship foundations can build nurses' confidence and provide the knowledge needed to make antimicrobial stewardship part of everyday practice. Through this interactive 3.5 hour workshop, we will cover antibiotic fundamentals, essential microbiology, and practical ways nurses, pharmacy technicians, healthcare assistants working primary, community and secondary care, can apply AMS principles to improve patient care and help preserve antibiotics for future generations.

As part of World AMR Awareness Week 2026, join this webinar exploring the role of point-of-care tests (POCTs) in supporting antibiotic prescribing decisios in primary care. Expert speakers will discuss the latest evidence, opportunities and challenges, and the potential impact of POCTs on antimicrobial stewardship.  Whether you are a GP, nurse, pharmacist, pharmacy technician, member of the wider primary care workforce, policymaker or NHS leader, this session offers an opportunity to reflect on a topic that continues to generate considerable interest and debate.

This webinar will share preliminary findings from the Phased-In trial, a feasibility study testing whether community pharmacies can safely and effectively take on a greater role in managing common infections, while supporting appropriate antibiotic use. Ten of the 20 participating GP practices referred patients with minor infections, such as sore throat, cough, ear, urinary and skin infections, to a linked community pharmacy. The other 10 practices continued to see these patients as usual. The practices serve diverse socioeconomic, geographical and ethnic communities, so the trial explores the approach in a wide range of settings.

The webinar is for community pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, GPs and advanced nurse practitioners. Over 1 hour, Professor Mark Lown and Blazej Jasnowski at the Primary Care Research Centre, University of Southampton will share their insights from the trial.
