Enabling care home staff to vaccinate peers and residents

13 August 2025 1:00pm – 1:45pmBST (+01:00)
Location TBC

Enabling care home staff to vaccinate peers and residents (Lancashire and South Cumbria).

This webinar explores an approach used by Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB to increase access to vaccines for both residents and staff living and working in care homes.

In a nationwide first, nursing staff at four homes in Barrow, within the ICB boundary, had been trained to vaccinate residents and staff against flu and COVID-19. This has enabled vaccinations to be given when appropriate and by staff working in the home already who are familiar to the people living and working there.

Presenter Carole McCann, Programme Director and Clinical Lead, will detail how the approach is being used today, alongside practical hints, tips and things to consider when exploring and implementing a similar approach. This includes discussion of the impact of the approach on take-up, residents’ health and wellbeing and local primary care teams.

Delegates will also be invited to ask questions, as well as share information about what has worked for them to increase take-up of vaccines in care home residents and staff.

This session will be of value to national, regional, and ICB staff working in vaccinations. While we invite everyone to apply for a free delegate place, please note that places will be prioritised for staff working in a vaccination role, (including those working in vaccine strategy, planning, delivery and promotion).

It follows recent work to summarise Demonstrator System activity and is one in a series of three webinars exploring local approaches that have supported improved vaccine uptake.
